AsiaRooms.com - River Kwai International Half Marathon Coming Up in Thailand
Thailand's Mizuno River Kwai International Half Marathon takes place on September 11th.
KANCHANABURI, THAILAND, August 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Running enthusiasts can soon compete in the prestigious Mizuno River Kwai International Half Marathon, which is the oldest road race in Thailand.
The challenge is now in its 30th year and will take place on Sunday September 11th 2011, with 1,500 spots open to competitors.
There are three categories: the 21.1 km full race, the 10 km quarter marathon and a special 30 km run to celebrate the occasion's anniversary. Normally only the first two options are available.
Anyone considering taking part should take note that the route is hilly and very challenging in parts.
The first half of the race takes participants up a steep incline and then runners will turn around and head back to their starting point, making the second half much easier.
All competitors will receive a medal and a T-shirt, with the top five athletes in each category winning a trophy.
The organisers recently urged runners to book their accommodation in Kanchanaburi as soon as they can, since there is heavy demand around the time of the race.
Entry costs 500 baht (GBP10.30) for the 10km and 1,000 baht for the longer routes. People must arrive the day before the challenge to register.
AsiaRooms.com recommends a vast selection of Thailand hotels for distance running enthusiasts, such as the Pavilion Rim Kwai Resort.
