P Ramlee is being celebrated in Kuala Lumpur with an art exhibition.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, May 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Geteran Jiwa P Ramlee will celebrate art and the work of a national icon at Kuala Lumpur's National Art Gallery Malaysia (NAGM).

Running until July 2011, the show will include a variety of pictures sent into the organisers, with proceeds from the showcase going to charity.

They explained in a statement: "The purpose of this exhibition is to give the opportunity to artists to interpret the life, persona and personality of Seniman Agong P Ramlee in the form of paintings."

P Ramlee, as he was often referred to, was hugely revered for his contribution to music, literature and cinema in Malaysia, Singapore and Sumatra.

Artists wishing to take part in the exhibition at the NAGM have been asked to paint a picture using his creative output as a starting point, for example drawing a scene from one of his films or books.

The collection has been organised in conjunction with Artist Day 2011, which takes place on May 29th.

Opening from 10:00 to 18:00 local time, the museum is free to enter.
