The folk music legend is set to perform at the Tanks Arts Centre on May 6th.

CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, April 24, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Much-loved Australian singer-songwriter Shane Howard is heading to Tropical North Queensland next month for a gig in Cairns.

The founding member of folk-rock group Goanna is perhaps best known for 1982 anthem Solid Rock, from the album Spirit of Place.

Produced by the late Fairport Convention star Trevor Lucas, it was one of the first songs to discuss the issue of Aboriginal rights and had a major impact on a generation of musicians.

Since then, Howard has released a string of popular records with Goanna and as a solo artist, including May 2010 release Goanna Dreaming.

His current Australian tour features bandmates such as Black Arm Band drummer Rory McDougall and Amy Saunders, a vocalist from folk act Tiddas.

He is set to take the stage at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns on May 6th 2011. Doors and the bar open at 18:30 local time, with the gig scheduled to kick off at 19:30.

Tickets cost AU$30, although a concessionary rate of AU$25 is also available.

Support will be provided by local act David Hudson.
