LateRooms.com - Check out Kees Van Dongen Show in Paris
The Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris has unveiled an exhibition devoted to the Dutch artist Kees Van Dongen.
PARIS, FRANCE, April 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A Kees Van Dongen exhibition entitled Fauve, Anarchist and Socialite has opened in Paris showcasing the many facets to the artist's persona.
Running until July 17th 2011 at the Musee d'Art Moderne (MaM), the installation includes about 90 paintings and drawings, in addition to some 19th and 20th-century ceramics.
The retrospective of Van Dongen's work is intended to offer a fresh perspective on the artist, with the venue suggesting recent academic study has painted him in a more favourable light.
It is fitting that his paintings are being displayed in the French capital, since he spent a great deal of time in the city.
Explaining the title, the organisers said in a statement: "This is a comprehensive look at a multifaceted personality: the socially-conscious Dutchman ever ready to caricature and denounce, the avant-garde artist and iconic Fauve, and one of the Roaring Twenties' leading figures on the trendy Paris scene."
Admission costs EUR10 (GBP8.85), although there are concessions available.
Opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 18:00 local time, except for Thursday when the exhibition is available to view until 22:00.
The closest Metro stations to the museum are Alma-Marceau and Iena.
LateRooms.com recommends a huge variety of Paris hotels for art enthusiasts, including the Hotel Bastille Paris.
