LateRooms.com - La Nouvelle Vague on Display in London
London's James Hyman Gallery is showcasing La Nouvelle Vague, which offers a selection of images from behind the scenes of French New Wave films.
LONDON, ENGLAND, July 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Guests at London hotels will have the chance to get closer to one of the most celebrated filmmakers of all time, thanks to a new photography exhibition entitled La Nouvelle Vague - Iconic New Wave Photographs by Raymond Cauchetier.
Running from July 14th until August 28th, the show features images from behind the scenes at some of Jean Luc Godard's great films, as well as several other hugely important works in the French canon.
Among the films included in the exhibition are Godard's A Bout de Souffle and Une Femme est Une Femme, Francois Truffaut's Jules et Jim and Jacques Demy's Lola.
The organisers explained that Cauchetier is largely a self-taught snapper who is also celebrated for his pictures of Romanesque sculptures, but it is the work he did while surrounded by young filmmakers in Paris that this display is focused on.
He mixed with Godard and several others in the French New Wave movement of the 1960s and this exhibition showcases the images that he captured of that fascinating time.
The Guardian pointed out that the pictures are "very French", with plenty of pouting and brooding going on, but it describes the era as "one of the most exciting and revolutionary film decades".
People can visit the show at the James Hyman Gallery.
