LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, July 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Malaysia's independence from colonial rule is celebrated next month on Hari Merdeka and Langkawi is one of the best places in the whole country to join in the party.
The south-east Asian country will have been freed from British governance for 53 years on August 31st 2010, an occasion which is marked by a nationwide public holiday.
However, it is not just the event itself that can be enjoyed by tourists staying at Langkawi hotels, as a range of festivities take place throughout the whole month of August to build up to the day.
A number of flamboyant and colourful parades take place across the country, fireworks are launched and buildings are decked out in the national flag, known as the Jalur Gemilang.
Kedah's official tourism website has promised that the celebrations in Langkawi will be especially memorable on August 30th, the eve of Hari Merdeka - which translates as Independence Day.
It said a whole evening of song and dance is planned, while a series of sketches and poetry recitals will also take place.
The body explained these performances are designed to give Malaysians a sense of patriotism and instill youngsters with "a love for the nation".
Malaysia Day, which marks the official formation of the Federation of Malaysia, takes place the following month on September 16th.
